Instrumental Music at Garden City Community College
Buster Bands
Membership in the Buster Band program is open to all students for one hour of credit
per semester. Previous band experience, a desire to contribute to campus life, enthusiasm
and pride are requirements for prospective band members. The Buster Band marches at
all home football games and serves as an athletic band at all home basketball games.
The band periodically travels to away athletic events on a limited basis. The band
performs not only at athletic events but also performs periodically within the community.
The ensemble also performs in a concert band setting multiple times throughout the
year. Scholarships are available to all band students.
Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is the select group of the Band Department, being open by audition only. The band plays in a traditional “big-band” format of five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones, and rhythm section. The group performs the great jazz literature in all styles including jazz, bop, swing, Latin, and rock. Typically the ensemble tours Southwest Kansas High Schools in the spring. The group is open to any student regardless of major. Members receive an additional scholarship. The group rehearses Monday and Wednesday for one hour of college credit.
