Cadaver Lab
Garden City Community College cadaver lab is possible due to the great donations within the Willed Body Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Garden City Community college has one of three cadaver labs located in a Kansas community college. The cadaver lab was started in the late 1980’s and has continued to offer students the opportunity to explore, observe and dissect the human body alongside peers and faculty. The cadaver lab is used to aid Anatomy and Physiology students in learning and visualizing. GCCC cadaver lab provides a unique, palpable experience with human tissue, which cannot be entirely simulated by models orreplications. Visitors will see actual anatomical distinctions.
The cadaver lab is a dynamic factor of anatomy education. It provides a comprehensive, applied learning experience that empowers students to:
- Explore human anatomy in detail.
- Learn spatial relationships.
- Enhance diagnostic skills. Prepare for clinical practice.
During your time in the cadaver lab, focus on achieving the following objectives:
- Identify Major Anatomical Structures.
- Understand Structure-Function Associations.
- Build Foundational Skills for Clinical Practice.
- Enhance Critical Thinking and Observation.
When visiting the lab, please know that you will be encouraged to: Come Prepared: Concentrate on familiarizing yourself with the main anatomical regions and larger structures. Participate Collaboratively with Your Peers.
