Upward Academy Students Celebrate Achievements
[Garden City, KS] January 6, 2021 - Upward Academy students celebrated their educational achievements in December 2020
during a fun socially-distanced gathering. The students were honored and recognized
for their accomplishments during the fall semester.
Dr. Ryan Ruda, Garden City Community College President, stated "I was honored to be
a part of the event. It was very humbling and rewarding to see the excitement and
happiness that the students showed on receiving their educational achievements. Thank
you for all your work and leadership in the Upward Academy program and I look forward
to doing what we can to continue moving this very rewarding program forward."
Upward Academy is an adult-learning education partnership program with Tyson Foods.
Through this, Tyson employees can take English as a Second Language (ESL), General
Educational Development (GED), citizenship and other essential life and workplace
skills classes at no cost. These classes are provided through GCCC's Mobile Lab, located
at Tyson's plant, and are taught by the Garden City Career Connections Academy (GCCCA)
staff.
This successful collaboration between GCCC and local industry partner, Tyson Foods,
continues to provide valuable educational opportunities to the local workforce.
