GCCC Hosting Living Room Concert Oct. 14

[Garden City, KS, Oct. 2, 2019--] Garden City Community College is pleased to partner with the Western Kansas Arts Alliance High Plains Public Radio and the Tumbleweed Festival for a Living Room Concert with accomplished performer, composer, and educator, Rob Scheps. The concert will be held on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at 7 p.m. in the portico inside the Beth Tedrow Student Center. All events in this series are free and open to the public.

Rob Scheps, internationally acclaimed saxophone player, has an impressive resume of performances and recordings, including Buddy Rich, Mel Torme, John Abercrombie, and many others.

"Saxophonist Rob Scheps has a brawny, muscular tone and delivery on the bandstand that makes one nostalgic for jazz's once - dangerous qualities. Not one to tread lightly, he possesses a feral sense of musicianship, a feverish jubilance for all things jazz, and a relentless swagger that is utterly infectious -- every gig is high noon. Like both Charles Mingus and Ben Webster (two famously sensitive, yet combustible players), Scheps' take-no-prisoners approach caroms between the beautiful and the brazen and never fails to engage. We're lucky to call him our own." - Tim DuRoche, WILLAMETTE WEEK (Portland, Oregon)

Attendees are encouraged to attend a reception from 6 to 7 p.m. to meet and greet Rob, followed by the 7 p.m. performance with GCCC’s own Ron Carlson on guitar. For more information, visit https://www.robschepsmusic.com/
