Mercer Gallery Hosting Art Exhibition from GCCC Alum Tristan Lindo

[Garden City, KS] February 22, 2023 -- The Mercer Gallery is pleased to host Garden City Community College class of 2015 alumni Tristan Lindo, twin brother of the previous artist Hannah Lindo. The exhibition will run from February 24th to March 10th featuring artworks from Tristan Lindo's time in graduate school at the University of Kansas. An artist workshop will occur on Friday, March 10th, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Joyce Fine Arts Building Room 1413, followed by a closing reception from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Mercer Gallery.

During the beginning of Lindo's time in graduate school (2019-2022), many sudden shifts were personal and inevitable in the world. Collectively, these pieces form a journey that started with significant distress and led to the construction of a science-fantasy narrative entitled, Sascia: A Genesis. After graduating from KU, Lindo is left where he found himself in 2020: free-falling between ideas that leave him asking himself, "Well, now what?"

The Mercer Gallery is open Monday through Wednesday, from 9 am to 4 pm, Thursdays from 9 am to 10 pm, and Fridays from 9 am until 4 pm. For more information, please contact Gallery Director Michael Knutson at michael.knutson@gcccks.edu.

ABOUT ARTIST: TRISTAN LINDO

Tristan Lindo was born and raised in Garden City, Kansas. Lindo received his Associate of Fine Arts at Garden City Community College in 2015. After his time at Garden City Community College, Lindo transferred to Fort Hays State University and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (2017). When he finished his undergraduate career, Lindo took a year off from academia to create more work and apply to graduate school. In 2019, he would be accepted into the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Kansas. As of 2022, Lindo graduated from KU with his MFA and currently resides in Lawrence, Kansas- where he continues to create work.

Ever since Tristan Lindo started creating art, he has been attracted to the mysterious nature of Human reality. Drawing and painting have been a form of communication that Lindo found fascinating and comforting. The way that values and colors inform us of an overall image reminds him of how our lives are similarly structured and layered. Underneath the present, we are comprised of our environments, memories, and driving forces. Currently, he is decompressing from graduate school and formulating what his next body of work will be. Regardless of his next body of work, it will center around my observation of reality.
