GCCC to Continue with Masks Appreciated Policy
[Garden City, KS] August 4, 2021 -- Garden City Community College will continue to operate in Phase 1 with a "Masks Appreciated" policy for the beginning of the Fall semester starting August 16th.
Faculty may require masks in their classrooms, and this will be communicated to students through the course syllabus. Masks may also be required in certain offices, based on the needs of employees with health-related concerns which necessitate masks still be worn. GCCC asks that you bring a mask and kindly follow the posted signage in these locations.
A multi-phased Healthy and Safe Campus Plan has been developed through extensive discussion between the GCCC COVID Committee and the Finney County Health Department (FCHD), with considerations given to rapidly evolving medical guidance, increasing community positivity rate, and the goal of slowing the spread to protect the campus and community.
Phase 1 policy is "Masks Appreciated", Phase 2 policy is "Masks Required for All in Classrooms and Learning Environments and Student Life Programming Events Held Indoors. Masks Appreciated Elsewhere Indoors", and Phase 3 policy is "Masks Required for All on Campus when Indoors". GCCC will continue to assess and follow CDC and KDHE guidance to assess if further phase changes are needed.
GCCC encourages all employees and students to get vaccinated and will provide a $500 financial incentive for students, faculty, and staff who submit a verified immunization card showing their fully vaccinated status. More information will be forthcoming to students and employees on this incentive.
In coordination with the FCHD, GCCC will host vaccination clinics on campus as well as provide informational sessions about the vaccine to educate and encourage students and employees to get vaccinated.
Students and employees will continue to complete daily health screenings through the GCCC Mobile App. The GCCC Mobile App will assign color-coded Health Passes which communicate a person's current status. Students will be asked to show their Health Pass in each classroom before entering.
The top priority of Garden City Community Colleges is the safety and health of students, staff, and the community. GCCC asks that you continue to be vigilant and help decrease the spread of COVID-19 by washing hands, social distancing, wearing a face mask in public places, and staying home if you are not feeling well.
