GCCC Theatre Announces 2023-2024 Season
[Garden City, KS] September 5, 2023 -- Garden City Community College Theatre is excited and proud to announce its 2023-2024 theatrical season to the public. In the first year of the program's revival, two shows will be offered to the public in the fall and spring.
"Our plan is to build the seasons with an increasing number of shows as our majors and audiences return to GCCC," says Director of Theatre Dr. Joshua Kelly. "We're aiming to have three shows in the next academic year, and then move into a four-show season standard for the future."
The fall production will be the Tony Award-nominated play The Pillowman by celebrated writer/director Martin McDonagh. Interrogated brutally by officers from a totalitarian regime, author Katurian learns that someone out in the community is committing heinous acts--acts that previously only existed in Katurian's own unpublished stories. A grim yet hopeful story, The Pillowman challenges us to consider what the boundaries of good art are and what the fearful consequences can be when someone misinterprets that art. The Pillowman plays in the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts auditorium on November 2-4 and November 9-11 at 7:00 PM.
The spring production will be the riotous, hysterical comedy Noises Off! by Michael Frayn. Adapted into a celebrated film starring Michael Caine and Carol Burnett, Noises Off! follows the rehearsals and performances of a theatre company attempting to produce a British farce. But when the romantic and professional intrigues of the cast and crew pervade the performance, Noises Off! becomes a marathon of laughable disaster. Noises Off! plays in the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts auditorium on April 18-20 and April 25-27 at 7:00 PM.
"It is very exciting to be able to present two such contrasting, ambitious, and quality plays for our first season," says Dr. Kelly. "The Pillowman is a stunning work that challenges us, Noises Off! is a hilarious work that entertains us. Garden City has shown itself to be--even in my short time here--a place that is very supportive of the theatre and hungry for more, so we're proud to be offering these two plays for such an artistically-inspired public."
Tickets for all shows are $10 General Admission seating and free to all students. Questions or comments can be directed to Dr. Joshua Kelly by emailing joshua.kelly@gcccks.edu.
