GCCC Mercer Gallery Hosting Garden City High School Artists Exhibition
[Garden City, KS] April 11, 2025 -- The Garden City Community College Visual Arts Department recently hosted more than 30 Garden City High School (GCHS) students for its first-ever Visual Arts Activity Day, held on Thursday, April 10. The event offered an immersive, hands-on experience for young artists and celebrated their work with a featured student exhibition in the Mercer Gallery, located in the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building.
The GCHS Art Scholarship Exhibition remains open to the public for a limited time, with viewing hours as follows:
- Friday, April 11 – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Monday, April 14 – 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A closing reception will be held Monday, April 14 from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring light refreshments. Admission is free, and the community is warmly invited to attend.
As part of the activity day, students engaged in ceramics demonstrations, printmaking workshops, and a collaborative mural painting, while receiving professional critiques from GCCC Art faculty. The event marked a unique opportunity for these students to display their artwork in a professional gallery setting.
“This exhibition allows young artists to step into a creative space that validates and supports their work,” said Gallery Director Michael Knutson. “We’re incredibly proud of their talent and grateful to the community for its support of youth arts education.”
The event was made possible through the efforts of Garden City High School art instructor Candiance Waltz and the entire GCHS art department. Due to the success of this inaugural event, GCCC looks forward to extending future exhibitions and continuing to foster artistic growth in the region’s youth.
