GCCC Department of Public Safety Announces 2024 Firearms Training Schedule

[Garden City, KS] December 11, 2023 -- The Department of Public Safety (DPS) at Garden City Community College has announced the 2024 schedule for Basic Handgun, Concealed Carry, and Women’s Basic Handgun training courses.

Training will take place at the GCPD Indoor Range and payment is required at the time of enrollment. Registration will close the Monday before the course. Due to limited seating, we request that any cancellations be made by 4:00 pm the Wednesday before a scheduled class. You may cancel by phone or via email and request to receive a full refund. Late cancellations or no-shows will be subject to a cancellation fee of $50. When you register for a class, you agree to these terms.

The Basic Handgun training course is open to men, women, and children aged 16 or older who have a parent also enrolled in the class. This eight-hour hands-on course covers the fundamentals of handgun operation. It will be offered on May 4 and October 5, 2024, from 8 AM to 5 PM. The $85 registration fee includes the use of guns and ammo, and participants are encouraged to provide their own eye and ear protection.

The Concealed Carry training course is required for all Kansas citizens who desire to apply for a Concealed Carry Handgun License. Participants must know how to safely handle a handgun in order to take this course. The training will be offered on February 3, April 6, June 1, September 7, and November 2, 2024, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. A $100 registration fee, which includes lunch, is required. Participants must provide their own firearm, 60 rounds of ammunition, and eye and ear protection. 

The Women’s Basic Handgun training course is open to women and girls aged 16 or older who have a parent also enrolled in the class. No experience is necessary to join this eight-hour hands-on course covering gun safety and familiarization. The $85 registration fee includes the use of guns and ammo, and participants are encouraged to provide their own eye and ear protection. The training will be offered on March 2, August 3, and December 7, 2024, from 8 AM to 5 PM.
