GCCC BOT Approve New Video Board for Baseball Stadium
[Garden City, KS] July 19, 2023 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved a new video board for the baseball stadium during the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
The Board heard a recommendation to replace the scoreboard at Williams Stadium. The large-screen video display board would improve the sound system for house sound, field mics, and overall game-day sound. Additionally, the video board would enhance recruitment efforts, provide incentives and new avenues for revenue generation through advertising, and provide an opportunity to attract sporting events and competitions to the facility.
GCCC Administration recommended a bid from Daktronics featuring a 17'x30' video board, two speaker systems, a standard scoreboard, and a mobile scoring system for $235,000. The purchase will be funded upfront by GCCC through investment funds, but full repayment will occur through an anonymous private donor over the next four years. Additionally, a projected cost of $55,000 will be incurred to install fiber optic cable for this project. The Board approved the new video board and it is expected to be ready at Williams Stadium for the spring 2024 baseball season.
GCCC is required to notify the Finney County Clerk of its’ intentions regarding the Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR). The Board approved the intent to exceed the RNR with a proposed mill levy of 25.276. A public budget hearing is set for August 29, 2023, at 7:30 a.m. in the Fry Eye Conference Room inside the GCCC Student & Community Services Center.
One executive session was held and no action was taken.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the Ronald J. Scott Endowment Room inside the GCCC Beth Tedrow Student Center.
