GCCC Alumni Spotlight: Alexandro Carrillo

[Garden City, KS] January 16, 2025 – Born and raised in Garden City, Alexandro Carrillo exemplifies the transformative power of education and determination. Reflecting on his decision to attend Garden City Community College (GCCC), Alexandro shared, “I chose GCCC because it was conveniently located near my home and offered the program I was interested in at a more affordable price compared to other institutions. Additionally, the strong support system from my family and friends made this decision an easy one.”

Alexandro’s journey at GCCC began in 2018 when he enrolled in the Business Administration program. He graduated with his first associate degree in 2020 and then pursued a second in Automotive Technology, finishing in 2022. During his time on campus, Alexandro embraced opportunities beyond the classroom, playing in the Buster Sound Band for three years and actively participating in the Broncbusters Motorsports Club while in the Automotive program.

When asked about the most important lessons he learned at GCCC, Alexandro emphasized the value of practical experience, time management, and collaboration. “The hands-on skills I gained allowed me to apply classroom knowledge in real-world situations, preparing me for my career. Balancing coursework, projects, and extracurricular activities taught me how to prioritize tasks and stay disciplined under pressure. Collaborating with peers and faculty enhanced my problem-solving abilities and broadened my perspective. Most importantly, I discovered the power of a strong support network—faculty, staff, and fellow students—who guided and encouraged me to overcome challenges and stay focused on my goals.”

After earning his degrees at GCCC, Alexandro continued his education at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree. Today, he works as an Automotive Service Technician at Tesla Inc. in San Antonio, TX, a position that perfectly aligns with his passion for technology and innovation.

“At Tesla, my role involves maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles, including the S3XY models and the groundbreaking Cybertruck lineup,” Alexandro explained. “I perform routine inspections, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and ensure all work meets the highest safety and manufacturer standards.”

Alexandro credits GCCC for laying the foundation of his professional success. “My education at Garden City Community College equipped me with practical skills, critical thinking, and the perseverance to push through challenges. The hands-on experiences and rigorous academic environment prepared me for the real-world demands of my career.”

To current and prospective students, Alexandro offers heartfelt advice: “Embrace hands-on learning and stay committed to your goals. Lean on the strong support network of faculty, staff, and peers—they provide invaluable guidance. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and remember, challenges are part of the learning process. Persevere, manage your time effectively, and stay disciplined. Make the most of your time at GCCC, as it’s an investment in your future.”

In reflecting on his time at GCCC, Alexandro expressed deep gratitude. “The experiences and opportunities I had at Garden City Community College have left a lasting impact on my life. The skills I developed academically and personally have shaped my path, and I encourage students to stay engaged, take initiative, and embrace every chance to grow.”
