GCCC Announces 2022-2023 Ambassador Scholars
[Garden City, KS] March 11, 2022 -- Garden City Community College is excited to announce the selection of the 2022-2023 Ambassador Scholars: Morgan Hammond of Holcomb, KS, and Hayden Jellison of Montezuma, KS.
An Ambassador Scholar is a prestigious scholarship accolade based on academic achievement, school and community service, and other important criteria. This award is given to two incoming freshmen each year at GCCC. Each applicant must be recommended by a counselor from their high school, submit a comprehensive application, and complete a thorough personal interview process. Ambassador Scholars receive a $2,400 annual scholarship awarded for their two-year term. The Ambassadors assist the President's Office and the Endowment Association Office throughout the year with various tasks and events on campus.
In February, six area high school seniors with an intent to attend GCCC were interviewed by a panel chosen by the GCCC Endowment Association. Hammond and Jellison were selected from this group to become Ambassador Scholars beginning in Fall 2022. The other four candidates received $1,000 scholarships for their excellent work and contributions to their high schools and communities.
"Our Ambassador Scholars for the 2022-23 academic year are both exceptional. Ms. Hammond and Mr. Jellison have previously excelled in their academic careers and display strong leadership qualities, and I have no doubt this will continue while they attend Garden City Community College," Dr. Ruda, GCCC President, said. "I look forward to watching them achieve their goals while being a Buster."
Morgan Hammond of Holcomb, Kansas will soon graduate from Holcomb High School. Hammond holds a 4.0 GPA while participating in 4-H, band, cheer, dance team, softball, drumline, and show choir. Hammond plans to earn her associate degree from GCCC, bachelor's degree from FHSU, and then her doctorate degree in biology from WSU to become a physical therapist. She then plans to open her own physical therapy office.
Hayden Jellison of Montezuma, Kansas will soon graduate from South Gray High School. Jellison has achieved straight A's throughout his high school career, earning him a spot on the Honor Roll, while also working multiple jobs. He served as Class Vice President in 2018, as well as currently being involved with the National Honor Society, South Gray Men's Letter Club, and Kansas Professional Rodeo Association Bullfighter. Jellison has a passion for rodeo and has volunteered at the annual bronc riding school, rodeo practices, and high school rodeos.
