Commerce Bank Sponsors Equipment for New GCCC Robotics Program

[Garden City, KS] May 5, 2023 -- Garden City Community College (GCCC) has received a donation from Commerce Bank to purchase $8,000 worth of equipment for the new Robotics and Mechatronics program at GCCC.

Commerce Bank and the Frazee Charitable Trust, in partnership with Commerce Trust, have sponsored the purchase of a new mobile robotics platform. This robotic equipment will be used for the development of Robotics curriculum, classroom instruction, recruitment, and robotics club use.

"Garden City Community College’s commitment to education and pursuit of innovation aligns with Commerce Bank’s core values," said Rich Harp, Chairman, Commerce Bank, Garden City. "Our commitment to have a long-term view underscores investments like this. We are pleased to collaborate with the Frazee Charitable Trust to support the new robotics program."

"GCCC is honored to have strong supporters. We are fortunate to have Commerce Bank as one of our longstanding supporters. This investment by Commerce Bank into the newly formed Robotics program will help to equip and set this program on an immediate path for student success and training needs," said Dr. Ruda, GCCC President. "The Robotics program is one of only two in the state, and the support from Commerce Bank ensures that we have the equipment and resources necessary for start-up and program success."

Robotics and Mechatronics combine mechanics, engineering, and computing principles to create and improve new technology with artificial intelligence. The field includes both the robots/systems that automate a process and the surroundings that allow the robot to sense and interact with its environment. Robotics and Mechatronics is a growing field that is increasingly valuable in diverse industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics. GCCC offers an Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, and a Certificate B in this program. To learn more about the program, contact 620-276-0428 or yuriy.drubinskiy@gcccks.edu.
