Illuminare: Choral Vespers Concert

The Garden City Community College (GCCC) Music Department invites the community to an afternoon of choral music with the annual Choral Vespers Concert, Illuminare, on Sunday, December 8, at 2:30 PM. The concert will be held in the KCB Bank Auditorium inside the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building on the GCCC campus. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

This year’s concert will feature the GCCC Concert Choir, GCCC College Singers, Southwest Kansas Chorale & Orchestra. Sean Boller, Associate Professor of Vocal Music and Choir Director at GCCC, will direct and be accompanied by collaborative pianist Maria Loving.

“The combined piece we are presenting this year is unlike anything we’ve done in the past,” shared Boller. “Illuminare by Elaine Hagenberg is her first extended work, featuring five movements for SATB chorus and chamber orchestra. The piece takes us on a journey through a season of beauty and goodness disrupted by darkness and confusion through lesser-known sacred texts in Latin, Greek, and English. But as Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace.”

Boller continued, “I am thrilled to showcase the Southwest Kansas Chorale as we continue to grow, along with the beautiful Christmas music presented by the GCCC Choirs.”
