BOT Approves New Legal Counsel for GCCC
[Garden City, KS] November 10, 2021 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved a recommendation for retaining new legal counsel during the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
With the upcoming retirement of GCCC's longstanding attorney, Randy Grisell, GCCC Administration submitted a request for proposal for legal services to local and regional law firms. After a pre-proposal meeting with four firms, two completed applications were received. Taking into consideration the prime criteria of municipal experience, GCCC Administration recommended retaining legal services with Tate & Kitzke, L.L.C. of Hugoton, KS on a one-year contract period. Tate & Kitzke, L.L.C. has municipal experience representing multiple school districts, two city governments, and other educational entities. The BOT approved the recommendation to retain Tate & Kitzke, L.L.C commencing in January 2022.
The Board heard an overview presentation of the upcoming Title V Grant Project - STEM Central. This grant will fund three new programs, new personnel positions, and facility renovations to create additional classrooms and lab spaces on the north side of the current FOUSE building.
Additionally, the Board heard updates on various campus improvement projects that have been completed, as well as ongoing and future projects. An Accreditation Update was heard along with a 5 Year Program Review of the GCCC Computer Science and Business programs.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, December 14th at 6 p.m. in the Endowment Room at the Beth Tedrow Student Center.
