BOT Approves Financing Transaction for Stadium Lighting Project

[Garden City, KS] August 11, 2021 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved the financing transaction for the baseball stadium lighting replacement project during the regularly scheduled meeting on August 10th.

The Board unanimously approved a financing agreement to enter a financing transaction for the baseball stadium lighting replacement project. Previously, during the May 11th meeting, the Board approved a contract to replace all eight light poles at Williams Stadium.  The new light poles will be 80' steel pole installations with attached LED fixtures.  The project will be completed in 6 to 8 weeks after financing is finalized.  By switching to LED fixtures, GCCC will realize energy savings and reduce light pollution in the surrounding neighborhood.

The Trustees also approved the administration's recommendation to waive the liquidated damage fee for a full-time faculty member who has resigned but will continue as an adjunct instructor at GCCC.

Multiple new employees were also introduced to the Board and welcomed to Garden City Community College as their biographies were shared by vice-presidents Colin Lamb and Marc Malone.

Dr. Ruda, GCCC President, shared that the remaining Spring 2021 balance of all students has been paid for through institutional HEERF III funding.  He highlighted that students can also apply for up to $1000 of grant funding for the Fall 2021 term through the GCCC website: https://www.gcccks.edu/covid-19/fall_heerf/fall_2021_heerf_3_application.aspx.

The Board held an executive session where no action was taken.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14th at 6 p.m. in the Endowment Room at the Beth Tedrow Student Center.
