BOT Approves Energy Services Agreement
[Garden City, KS] December 14, 2022 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved an energy services agreement during the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
The Board heard a presentation from GCCC Administration regarding a recent energy audit. GCCC entered a no-cost study with C&C Group to explore options for conserving energy and lowering utility costs, as one of the pillars in the GCCC Strategic Plan is Sustainable Infrastructure. C&C Group presented a three-phase plan to make significant improvements to the HVAC system in all buildings across campus, including changing controls, equipment, weatherization, and implementing an optimization plan to monitor and control temperature in buildings. Through the updates and enhancements to controls and processes, there will be realized savings.
The total project fee to make the optimization improvements across campus is $1,109,232, but there is no upfront cost to GCCC. The payments to C&C Group would come from the realized savings, which are conservatively estimated as $190,000-$230,000 annually. Through the realized savings, GCCC would pay 80% of the savings to C&C Group and realize the additional 20% in savings institutionally. GCCC would continue making payments through savings to C&C Group until the initial investment is recouped, which has a projected completion of 6-10 years. With this agreement, it is estimated to result in a 15-year savings of $5,780,932 with an annual energy inflation of 7% per year. The Board of Trustees approved the signing of the Energy Services Agreement with C&C Group.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the Logan Aviation Endowment Room inside the Beth Tedrow Student Center at GCCC.
