BOT Approves Bid for John Deere Facility Expansion
[Garden City, KS] December 16, 2022 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved bids for the John Deere Facility Expansion during a special session on Friday, December 16, 2022.
GCCC secured an American Rescue Plan Act grant through the Kansas Department of Commerce to fund an expansion of the John Deere Agricultural Technology program. This expansion will help to meet industry workforce demands by allowing the John Deere program to increase enrollment upon completion. These funds required a 1:1 match, which has been secured through local equipment matches and private monies. The grant provides $1,499,913 in funding towards an addition to the east side of the existing John Deere building. The addition will provide 6,747 square feet of shop and classroom space to facilitate expansion of the John Deere program in enrollment. A bid of $1,423,400 from Dick Construction for the John Deere Facility Expansion was recommended by GCCC Administration to the Board.
Additionally, the inclusion of an expansion of 1,722 square feet for IT office and server space was requested as an alternate bid. This expansion addresses the institutional need for office space, while also freeing up existing space currently occupied by IT and converting it into classroom space. The alternate bid of $415,700 from Dick Construction for IT office space was recommended by GCCC Administration to the Board.
The Board of Trustees accepted the bid of $1,423,400 from Dick Construction for John Deere Facility expansion, which will be covered in full through the secured grant funds. Additionally, the Board accepted the alternate bid of $415,700 from Dick Construction for the construction of IT office space onto the John Deere Facility expansion, which will be paid for from capital outlay funds.
