GCCC Alumni Spotlight: Rosa E. Saenz

GCCC Alumni Spotlight: Rosa E. Saenz

[Garden City, KS] February 27, 2023 -- Choosing to attend Garden City Community College was an easy choice for Rosa E. Saenz, a native of Garden City, KS. After receiving a presidential scholarship due to her high school GPA, the benefits of minimal out-of-pocket expenses and not needing to move far from home made GCCC the right choice to start her education.

While at Garden City Community College, Rosa learned time management, "I had to juggle multiple priorities while giving them each the attention they required and ensuring I succeeded in all." She initially started her education pursuing a completely different career, "When I decided I wanted to change my career path, my advisors at GCCC helped me adjust my courses. It was their guidance and the availability of courses offered at GCCC that allowed me to work towards my new major and set the foundation for my current career."

Rosa graduated from GCCC in 2006 with an Associate in Science in Business Administration and a Certificate in Management. She later went on to continue her education online through Friends University (Wichita, KS), earning a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership (2012), followed by a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance (2020).

Today, Rosa serves as the President/CEO of Golden Plains Credit Union in Garden City, KS. In this role, she leads and manages various operations while maintaining a financially strong credit union. She shared her advice for current or prospective GCCC students:
"Never give up and follow your dreams. No matter how unreachable or impossible something may seem, if you work hard, you will get there."

Garden City Community College is proud to have played a role in Rosa's success. Make a difference for future Busters by starting your own Endowed Scholarship through the GCCC President's Scholarship Initiative!
