GCCC Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Jeffrey Boone

[Garden City, KS] January 30, 2023 -- Originally from Garden City, KS, Jeffrey Boone attended Garden City Community College from 1969 to 1971, where he earned his Associate in Science.  Boone was also a Broncbuster athlete, competing on the basketball and tennis teams.  GCCC was a natural fit for Boone, as his mother, Joyce Boone, served as Academic Department Chair and they lived less than a mile from campus.  He received both academic and athletic scholarships while attending GCCC.

Boone reflected on the most important thing he learned while attending Garden City Community College, "You can learn and excel anywhere, and you should always be proud of where you started." He also attributed GCCC with providing the foundation for his pursuit of excellence.  "Starting at GCCC provides a strong anchor and foundation to go anywhere your dreams can take you," Boone shared.

After graduating from GCCC, Boone attended Southwestern College (Winfield, KS) and earned a Bachelor of Science.  Following that, he attended Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS) and earned a Master of Science.  Boone then attended medical school at the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA), and earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).

After being a pioneer in the prevention of heart disease and stroke for over three decades, Dr. Boone founded the Boone Heart Institute in Greenwood Village, CO in 2008.  The mission of the institute is to eradicate heart attacks and strokes.  Dr. Boone serves as the President and CEO of the Boone Heart Institute while also being an active clinician, researcher, and international lecturer.
