Policy Statement:
The Garden City Community College Police Department is committed to providing a safe campus and learning environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. The department is dedicated to respond to all needs of Garden City Community College in a professional capacity to allow the campus to fulfill its educational mission. GCCC Police has the authority to enforce all policies of the College and has the responsibility to abide by and enforce all Federal, State, and Municipal laws governing the area in which they operate.
Procedures:
The department will work with the community and other law enforcement agencies in a cooperative effort to prevent crime and provide the highest quality service through education, enforcement of polices, and community service at Garden City Community College.
In addition to abiding by Federal and State Laws, county resolutions, and city ordinances, Campus Police Officers shall enforce rules and regulations in junction whether or not violation thereof constitutes a criminal offense. Every officer shall, while on duty, wear and publicly display a badge of office and any such person shall present proper credentials and identification when required in the performance of such officer’s duties.
Campus Police has the power to request any individual not abiding by policies of the College to vacate the premises at any given time or place determined by Campus Police and or GCCC Administration. Policies are subject to enforcement off of campus property on a case by case basis dictating the place and situation.
Campus Police has the authority to enforce policies at all sporting events, including such activities that take place at the Rodeo Arena located at the fairgrounds. Any individual who breaks policies of Garden City Community College will be referred to administration for administrative action.
The Garden City Community College Police Department will accomplish this mission by: Providing caring and helpful service and addressing the particular needs of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Providing the Campus with security coverage year-round in a professional manner.
- Analyzing crime trends and taking necessary action to curtail those trends.
- Patrolling on foot and in vehicles, being alert for illegal activity and suspicious persons, identifying potential hazards, and being watchful for potential accidents and safety hazards.
- Enforcing the Campus parking regulations and keeping campus streets and parking lots unobstructed.
- Coordinating traffic and crowd control at special events on campus such as athletic events.
- Providing or limiting daily access to the campus by locking and unlocking doors, providing building security, and erecting barricades.
- Coordinating with other local law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of federal, state, and municipal laws.
The Garden City Community College Police Department has the authority to operate in:
- Main Campus
- Residential Life
- Sports Complex
- East Garden Village
- Rodeo Arena
- Any leased or owned property by Garden City Community College
- Any event held by Garden City Community College while off campus.
