GCCC Board of Trustees Meeting Recap October 13, 2026
The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees met for a regularly scheduled meeting on October 13, 2026.
The Board opened the meeting by congratulating Jessica Murry, the first GCCC student to receive the American Medical Technologists (AMT) Outstanding Registered Medical Assistant Student of the Year Award. She was nominated by Jami Major, GCCC Assistant Professor of Allied Health, who recognized Jessica’s academic dedication, support for classmates, and commitment to a healthcare career.
The Board reviewed a five-year academic report from the Physics program. The report provided an overview of the program, highlighted key achievements, and identified opportunities for continued growth and development.
The Board approved a $215,616 proposal from SOPA Inc. to replace the balcony bleachers in the front gym of the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex (DPAC). The new retractable seating system will accommodate 658 people and allow the balcony to be used for team practices, addressing the need for practice space for GCCC’s new women’s wrestling team. The project includes demolition, disposal, delivery and installation, with work scheduled to begin after commencement in May and continue through summer 2027.
One executive session was held and no action was taken.
The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
