Garden City Community College Announces Open Auditions for “Come From Away”

[Garden City, KS] October 27, 2026

Garden City Community College will hold open auditions for its spring musical, Come From Away, on Monday, November 16, and Tuesday, November 17, from 6:00-9:00 PM in the KCB Bank Auditorium inside the GCCC Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building.

The production is seeking performers aged 20 to 70 to create a diverse, multigenerational cast. Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute musical theater piece and be prepared to participate in a reading.

Based on a remarkable true story, Come From Away follows the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, which welcomed the world in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. When 38 planes carrying thousands of travelers from around the globe were diverted to Gander, the small town opened its doors to stranded passengers, transforming an ordinary day into an extraordinary display of compassion and community.

Despite cultural differences and language barriers, the residents of Gander provided food, shelter, music, and friendship to the unexpected visitors. The musical celebrates the kindness, unity, and resilience that emerged from an unprecedented moment in history, reminding audiences of the power of human connection.

Come From Away is a musical, with book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. The GCCC production will be directed by Sean Boller, GCCC Associate Professor of Vocal Music and Choir Director. Performances are scheduled for February 19-20 at 7:00 PM and February 21, 2027, at 2:30 PM.
