Program Overview
The Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Garden City Community College prepares students
to provide essential, hands-on patient care in a variety of healthcare settings. This
career-focused pathway builds the clinical skills needed to support patients and work
effectively within a healthcare team.
Hands-On Clinical Training
Students participate in lab simulations and clinical rotations where they learn key
nursing skills such as administering medications, monitoring patient health, documenting
care, and communicating with patients and healthcare staff.
Simulation-Based Learning and Early Clinical Experience
Classroom instruction is reinforced through a state-of-the-art simulation lab using
task trainers and high-fidelity simulators. Students also begin clinical experiences
early in the program across Western Kansas, building real-world confidence and competence.
Career and Advancement Pathway
The program follows a 1+1 ladder structure, allowing students to earn the Practical
Nursing credential and then seamlessly transition into the Associate Degree in Nursing
program to continue advancing their nursing career.
