Program Overview The Police Science/Criminal Justice program at Garden City Community College prepares
students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, and related criminal justice
fields. Students gain practical knowledge in areas such as law enforcement, crime
scene investigation, juvenile delinquency, and corrections.
Hands-On Law Enforcement Training Students build real-world skills through hands-on training in a simulation house,
patrol cars, and a state-of-the-art indoor firearms range. Training includes crime
scene investigation practice, traffic stop scenarios, and other realistic exercises.
Experienced Instructors and Field Experience Courses are taught by current or former criminal justice professionals, giving students
insight from real field experience. Small class sizes allow for personalized instruction
and mentorship.
Real-World Career Preparation Through ride-alongs and partnerships with local agencies, students gain valuable field
experience and a strong foundation for launching a career in the criminal justice
system.

Associate in Science - 60 credit hours
CRIM.AS - Criminal Justice degree that is a great option for students wishing to transfer
to obtain a Bachelor's degree or for advancement in the career field.
Associate in Applied Science - 67 credit hours
CRIM.AAS - Police Science AAS is specific to law enforcement and requires completion of the
Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center or similar academy.
CRIM.CERTC - Police Science certificate is great for students who just want law enforcement related
classes to prepare them for entering the workforce.

GCCC has worked with our transfer partners create seamless transfer opportunities
for students. These articulation agreements outline the pathway from GCCC to your
next stop by identifying the courses you should take and how they will transfer.
Our instructors are current in the field of criminal justice, specifically law enforcement,
and know that our students benefit from hands-on learning.
Our class size is small which allows for small student to instructor ratio.
Our crime scene simulation house and program patrol cars are utilized for real-life
simulated experiences.
We also offer firearms classes at a state-of-the-art range.
Other Information
The Criminal Justice program takes pride in being involved in the community. Our
students participate in approximately 100 hours of community service during their four semesters at Garden City Community College.
We encourage our students to do ride-alongs with local law enforcement and we invite
our local agency partners into our classroom for an enhanced learning experience.
We take our career exploration and learning off campus, as we visit prisons and other
criminal justice facilities and transfer colleges to prepare our students to take
the next step.
